Friends,

I'm retiring in a few years and will be ordering a Charles May OSK 1. Here's what I'm considering:

Knife Info

Full Length 9 1/4
Blade Length 4 5/8
Blade Material D2, as thin/light as OK with Mr. May
Handle Material: Dark Gray G-10
Standard leather sheath + kydex "necker" sheath

As a body of experts here on the forum, do you have any other recommendations or suggestions?

This is a no rush order that I plan to use hiking, on the farm, fishing and hunting. All suggestions are welcome to include "out of the box" comments.

Thanks!

Joe

Really a lot of options so get what you want enjoy it and your retirement.
Sorry not much help.

I have an OSK-1 and really love it... It was worth the (almost) 2 year wait!

I went with S30V, green micarta, black liners and mosaic pins... lovely knife..

I am thinking of ordering another... and selling my original

There are a couple of things I will change next time...

  • Firstly, I will go with a scandi grind... far easier to keep on top of in the field (imho)... not that S30V needs much keeping on top of... incredible metal! I ordered it with a scandi grind first time round and then bottled it and changed my mind!
  • Then the handle will be thicker. Whilst it is perfectly useable, I feel it needs more meat.. it is, in standard specs, a tad over .5" .52" to be precise... I want the next one to be closer to the thickness of my Cold Steel Master Hunter at .82".. that feels far more comfortable in the hand.
  • And... I will not forget to order a Kydex sheath! I rarely take my OSK-1 out with me as my primary use for a knife is hunting and I cannot work out how to get blood and snot out of a beautiful leather sheath!! so, the Cold Steel MH comes out with me instead... I can throw that and it's sheath in the dishwasher!!!! :)

Go for mosaic pins though... they look stunning

Paul
