I was wondering if anybody had any experiences good or bad, with this CC revolver. I just picked one up for fairly inexpensive, and have not yet had time to take it to the range. I have dry fired the weapon and everything is in perfect working order (timing, and lockup) and I have been carrying it with 38 special hydroshocks. (357 out of a 2" barrell doesn't seem necesary for defensive purposes but it is nice to have the option.)

I heard mix reviews on Charter arms. The company has gone though many tough times. Mainly the yoke is not as strong as on Smiths, Rugers, and Taurus. But for a .357 mag pug itself I sure it is a fine pistol. For 2" the best 357 rounds are 135gr gold dot sb, federal low recoil 130gr hydrashok and remington 125gr GSHP. Avoid the full power rounds. I shot Winchester 145gr Sivlertip and it was tough to double tap using my wife's sp101. My 686 it is no problem, in fact the two rounds we stock are Winchester sivlertips and Remington GSHP.

I've owned a couple of the older .44 Special versions and found them to be reliable. The trigger pull in both single and double action was a bit heavy and rough, but for the cost it was acceptable.

I liked them.

Haven't had any experience with the newer ones, though.

Have any idea when yours was made?

it's NIB so I would guess late last year early this year. I did a fairly decent eye inspection of the tooling and machining and function before I got it and everything seemed tip top. I understand they engineered the weapon to be the fewest moving parts possible to keep for simplicity of operation and rugged durability. - I guess only time will tell.

the date the test cartridge was fired was 2/21/2008

Yes the mag pug is a fairly new model introduce in 05 I believe. There is a new target version with a 4" barrel

I never carry a revolver for self defense until I have put at least 200 rounds through it, and auto double that. The Charters are about on par with any of the imported revolvers, they may not have the fit and polish of a S&W but they work well. I had a Charter Bulldog in 44spl and shot it quite a bit and never had problems. Charter calls this a light weight carry gun but it is twice as heavy as a light weight S&W. I have shot the 340PD with full 357 loads and it was managable so in a gun twice as heavy you should be ok. For 38s in my Detective Special I carry nothing but CorBon DPX but Gold Dot is almost as good. In the house my bedroom 38 is loaded with Thunderzaps, sadly Rich Davis discontinued them at the "urging" of Feds.
