Well no backpacking trip this year due to a cranky back, so me and my stepson took off the past few weekends to do some car camping and fly fish in the Rocky Mountain foothills streams for some cutthroat trout. Not a ton of pictures taken, but here are the good ones:

Found a nice spot right by the river to set up camp:

Here's our hunting grounds:

The trees are really starting to change color, making a beautiful area to play around in:

Of course, evenings brought out the food:

My favorite knife on camp chore duty:

My load out for the days:

And on to the hunt. Apparently there were some less fortunate one who came before us:

But we trudged on nonetheless. Eventually found ourselves a beautiful deep pool, where we pulled out most of our fish.

And finally, a few of our "trophies":

Nothing monster in size for sure, but fun nonetheless. Evenings brought more fire and a chance to carve out a very crude spoon using just my 16, and some coals to burn out the bowl area:

Again, a pretty crude, but not too bad for a first attempt.

Had a blast out there, and will definitely be making more trips next year. Seeings how we damn near froze out asses off at night, with temps hovering just above the freezing point, it'll be earlier in the summer next time lol. Hope you enjoyed the pics; thanks for looking.

Man, that must have sucked, haha. Jealous right now man, that looks like a freakin' blast. I definitely need to get out again.

This made me hungry:

That looks like a lot of relaxing fun! Everythings been so busy lately even with stuff that's suppose to be fun, you end up whooped and need a day off to rest! That looks like the kinda weekend I need. Thanks for sharing!

I hear you on that. With work being so busy, summer seemed to just blow by. Really had to force myself to not just take the weekend and rest up. Glad I did; this was a well overdue trip.

Great thread! You live in beautiful country and you're doing exactly what I wish I was.

More than a little jealous down here........

Great first spoon attempt too...............it's trickier than it looks.
BTW, I really like your strategic stippling on your BK16.
