I've been logged onto Bladeforums.com Chat for the last couple weeks trying to hit what is supposed to be the busier times and have once been able to chat with 4 people or so and the rest have been lucky/grateful when I get to speak with one!

What gives? I thought from reading previous posts here that the channel was hopping. Besides being a cool place to chat there is another interesting facet of talking with BFC Members there............................

'Trading'!

Hope to see some more people there in the future especially someone who knows what that '@' by your name means when you are the first one there.?!

Hello everyone
smile.gif
It is funny that I am the first to post to this question, as I am one of the few that has chatted with Emanym Ton on the chat line lately. I think I talked to one other person on there. I had fun, but past posts said that around 9:00 the place is hopping. 9:00 when? Once in a blue moon? GRRRRRRR! I find out that there is a knife CHAT LINE and there are few on it!!! Has everyone been busy with the knife holiday (blade show) or what???

By the way, the @ means that you are a moderator!!! You can kick people off the chat line, ban them, etc. Thankfully, wearing a pink tutu is not required on the chat lines, as I have heard it was for other internet sites. Poor guy or girl who has to wear a pink tutu in the name of duty eh! I hope it wasn't anyone here

Part of this must be my fault guys - I need to upload the new version of BladeForums.com MIRC

In the meantime, make sure that you guys are going to NEWnet, not DALnet and joining channel #BladeForums.com. TomW and myself are on right now - 9 PM EST

Spark,
That is one of the things we wondered...... How do you change the server as the program I downloaded from BFC only lists Dal.net servers? I tried changing settings to:
-
Description: Random US NEWnet Server
IRC Server: irc.new.net
Ports: 7000 (6667 didn't work either)
Group: 1
-
No dice..... What change do I need to make?
Hope to get this figured out and do some chattin'!
Thanks,
Shawn

BTTT.....
Anyone out there able to talk to Spark and the rest of the guys on NEWnet please help me out by going into your mIRC like normal to chat then clicking 'File'->'Setup'->then under 'IRC Servers' let me know what the list of servers says->highlight one that has 'NEWnet' in the name and click 'Edit' and you will see the line entries/descriptions I posted above. Just let me know what yours says and that should tell me all I need to know. Please don't make any changes to your settings but rather write the info on a piece of paper then post. Thanks!
Shawn

tell me about it I go there all the time and only once have I gotten to speak with others (not good on the self esteem).

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

Emanym Ton, sorry you're having trouble finding the BF chat room. Any newnet server will allow connection to the channel: #bladeforums.com.

Around 9 to 10 PM EST, there are usually 6 to 10 people hanging out. The usual suspects may include Kit Carson, Tim Herman, Darrel Ralph, Spark, Mike T, Richard T, Yoda, Mike Cooper (L6 steel), PhilL, Lizzybeth, Walt (suvorov), AllenBlade, Jani (from Finland), Jame Mattis, etc. There are some regulars, and some who hang out only occasionally. Because I live on the East Coast, I don't often stick around after 12 PM, but sometimes I do see some of the West Coast folks.

I am a Mac user, so I had to buy the shareware IRC software IRCle to chat. Mac users can download and test this software Free for thirty days, then its gonna cost you a $15 dollar one time fee to use: www.ircle.com.

PC users can download free IRC software from any of the links at http://www.mirc.com/.

Anyway, here is a short list of newnet servers that work for me:

irc.keytech.com
irc.dragondata.com
irc.eskimo.com
irc.para-net.com

Default ports for these servers are all 6667. Most seem to accept ports 6664 to 6667 for irc chat.

For those who may be confused:

Basically, to chat you need the right software. Your normal browser will not work. You can use the normal www addressing for these severs in your browser to visit the server site. You may even be able to enter the chat room in a test mode directly from the servers web site. But you will not be able to Chat for long without getting the right software. Once you have an IRC program, you need to connect to ANY of the NewNet servers. With IRCle, I can search for all available IRC servers. This returns a list of hundreds of servers on many different networks. Newnet is just one of many networks. The chat channel #bladeforums.com can be accessed from any of the NewNet servers.

Best of luck. Hope to seem some new faces in the chat room soon.

Just to add to some of the Usual Suspects on Chat;
Silat, md2020, Blues, pfff, Stihl, Chisel, zzjake, TomW, Alan Foltz, Otha, Mengle, Jadis, REKAT, Rob Simonich and Lynn Griffith.
It's a good group.

I have to admit getting into Chat takes some work, but once you do get in you will find that it's worth it, and will be easier the next time. I hope to see a lot more of you folks stopping by.

Yep, the lucky ones have the "@" signs. I even tried typing in my own to fit in but it won't accept it!

Paracelsus,
That did it! Got all the servers you listed up and tested- They work fine though that 'ChanServ' IRCop is different. On dal.net that doesn't happen but instead whoever signs on first is the '@' moderator/operator guy. Weird with the way I previously accessed.... I got on with dal.net and had no problem getting to BFC.com in fact since I got the software from Sparks shortcut it came pre-loaded with the command to immediately connect. Just wasn't very many people there. We need to get the word out to the others like Crayola and myself that are getting access through dal.net so I guess I can lurk around there and hopefully help them out or maybe they'll see this post and follow suit.? Thanks for the help! Talk to you guys online soon.
Shawn

Para, shame on the both of us, how could we forget our good friend Stab1.

Ok, I'm uploading the new mirc.exe file to the server right now... it should automatically connect you to the #BladeForums.com chat room when you hit connect - all you will have to do is enter a username.
