So I recently picked up a custom Redencion on the forums. The first issue I took with this knife was how dull this knife was. I'm pretty sure the over built, chunky nature of this knife is what caused this issue, but I feel like I better take a whack at sharpening this beast. Does anyone have any idea of dps or what stone to take to the CPM 3v on the sharp maker to attempt and put a sharp edge on it?

Thanks in advance

If your going to be doing lots of stock removal the sharpmaker is not the ideal tool. That said It should take a full 15dps no problem...

Are you saying that the factory grind is 15 dps? I have all the stones for a sharp maker including the boron nitric... diamond like ones. The worked well reprofiling a D2 Benchmade recently.

The reason I ask is I am unsure what cpm 3v should be like when sharp...Toothy like D2 can be? Etc... thanks again

I have no idea as to what the factory geometry is like. I am saying that any CPM 3V with a decent HT should have no problems holding a 15DPS angle.

CPM 3V should also have a much finer grain structure. Its toothiness should be determined by what grit you finish at.

I'm part way thru a reprofile. It appears it had a 22-24 dps. Going to 20 now. I think it should work out just fine. Thank you
