As I noted in my posting about FFFBM sheaths, if you want really good sheaths, go custom. However, for anyone looking for an inexpensive alternative to the factory cardboard sleeves, I found a couple that work pretty well online at BladeMatrix. I bought a 50 piece grab bag of sheaths as well as several individual ones. Almost none of them fit anything that I own, which made the grab-bag pretty much a waste for me. However, a couple of them worked out, and I'll pass that information along for anybody who's interested.

First, their SH739 sheath fits an Active Duty quite well. For $1.50, I was very pleased, even though it's a simple pocket sheath.

Second, their SH712 sheath fits a RatManDu pretty well. The knife is held securely, but loosely enough that it's easy to draw; the sheath is about 1-inch longer than the knife, but at $4.34, I can live with it. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the "Ducks Unlimited" logo, but I suppose that might even be a plus for some people.

Holy Crap! Great find there! :) The leather is worth more than they are asking for the sheath.

I was wondering who was going to buy all those sheaths from the Schrade factory, the bulk rate on those had to be incredible.

Those would make great storage sheaths, hmmmmmmm. ;)

Thank you for the information. Hmmmm, perhaps not for me but I'm sure someone else might want to use one for their Busse Combat INFI semi-custom best in the world fixed blade knife. ;)

a local knife shop had a bunch of old Shrade sheaths for $5 that fit my GW, it fits my AD as well

i think they are old Sharpfinger sheaths

it's not great, but it works better than cardboard :D

leatherman, with cheaper sheaths like those, do you have to worry about salts/chemicals in the leather with regard to long term storage?

I guess if you coated the blade in some oil or CLP you'd be fine though.

This is an excellent point! I'm as interested in affordable, decent sheaths as the next guy, but if you really think about it, spending $1.50 on a sheath for a $250 knife is a bit silly. But thanks for the heads up Jnphares! I may get one of those sheaths just to check them out.

For the Ratmandu, I've found that the SpecOps sheaths work perfectly. They're not exactly low-profile though. I'm looking for something new for an AD and a Meaner. I have a pretty good sheath that works for both, but one of them has to sit in cardboard while the other is in the sheath.
