I use this cheap and easy trick to protect the clip my lnib and lightly used CRK's. Not sure how or why I thought of it.

I cut a piece of matte finish scotch tape the same length as the clip. Place the tape sticky side up and trim about 3/16"

off of the edge. The tape has to be wide enough to cover the front side, the edge and a bit of the back side of the clip.

I center the tape on the clip, the clip is still on the knife, use my thumb/finger to seal the tape to the clip, I use my finger nail

to seal the tape the edge and a little bit of the back edge of the clip.

I'm not too picky about how the tape covers the end of the clip and long as the tape covers almost all of the end of the clip.

Most of the scratches/marks on my clip on my users are on the top, middle, and bottom of the clip not the very end of the clip.

Give it a go, it will help protect the clip/clips of your new and lightly used CRK's.

A light, thin coat of clear nail polish would achieve similar results I'd imagine.

Well broken in sebenza with some scratches is just so much better... Safe queens should stay in their safes anyway.

I'm typically more worried about my clip scratching other stuff (like friends car or furniture in the house) than the clip itself getting scratched.

Very true! I gave my car a wicked scratch a few years back and now pay close attention when getting in! All of my clips show some degree of wear, but I like the look:)

Yup. My 21 has met my paint on my newer Tacoma a few times. I just chalk them up all as "beauty" marks. Now doing that to somebody else's vehicle …:eek:

yeah I couldn't live with myself if I did that to someone else's car...

Gotta love your thought process Clockman. First a thread about hating on new and fresh from the spa knives and now one on preserving the clip so it stays looking new.

Gotta say that CRKs (mainly Sebs and Zaans) are the only knives that I think look just as good with some wear marks than without

I mean, really. It's a freaking knife. I'm not stupid with my knives, they're high end tools, but if you are that worried about scratches, why carry it?

Use a sheath. Or drop it in your pocket. Or have the convenience of the clip, and accept that it will get scratched.

I have to agree again. This sounds completely backwards but I recently sold my Spyderco collection that consisted of some of the most desirable CF sprints (LE's) made, some worth $500+ to a collector and I couldn't bring myself to use or carry them. It was refreshing to sell them (about 9 knives) and buy 5 CRK that I have absolutely no issue carry and using. Im not saying I will never but a CRK safe queen but they beg to be used. Let the clip get scuffed, a replacement one is what, $15?

The first scratch is the hardest, but after that you won't care anymore.

But even when I used to carry mine clipped, I got scratches and wear on every other part of the knife except on the clip so I must be doing it wrong?

I found that out this morning...I was playing with my new CF inlay 21 in my ready mix truck at work and set it down on my lap, jumped out of my truck and it took a good 6' fall to the concrete. It's not as bad as I expected but it took some scratches. Oh well, it's a user anyway.
