You can fit 2 standard cr123 batteries into an Altoids smalls tin, and if you cut off part if the rolled edge of the tin you can fit 3.
Might be cheap,but it works.

Not exactly cheap, but I really dig the Surefire waterproof storage carrier. I carry 1 of those, suits me just fine.

I was just fooling around here, and I discovered it.It'll hold me over until I can get a real cr123 holder.

A waterproof match case works very well too. I put a spacer of some sort (cardboard, cotton) in between the batteries. Cost is $1-2.

I don't have anything with CR123s in them, but what about baby soda bottles? I know AAs fit in there with a little room to spare?

Car glovebox gets the Surefire carrier, but for camping I'll just bring a spare pair in the orange $2 waterproof match case, works great and if you use a little bit of cardboard or paper to keep them from rattling its readily available fire starter!

The small 8oz soda bottles? Never tried it,thanks for the tip.

nope, soda bottles before they've been formed

You can find them around the web for fairly cheap, but you can really get savings if you buy 20-30 at a time normally. They are basically indestructible as well, tons of youtube vids!

There is even a place you can get them without caps. Save your soda bottle caps, they fit, and you can color code the contents that way.

I like the plastic orange match cases that I get at Wal Mart. I cut a couple of circles of inner tube to use as spacers to prevent rattling. Great way to carry a couple of spare batteries.

Yeah I have one of those, I use it for soap because I didn't have anything that ran off cr123s yet, thanks for the tip!

The plastic tubes that some cigars come in work ok. A strip of duct tape across the cap will help it stay on better. You can also use a hacksaw to cut the tubes to the desired length. Of course, if you don't smoke cigars, I would recommend the "uninflated" soda bottles above.

Baby soda bottles: 2 oz. capacity. I have used mine for medicine, syringes, lancets, Tums, cough drops, honey, wine, water, small tools. Easy to pack, easy access, practically unbreakable, and water-tight.

having batteries rolling around in a metal tin not a great idea unless there is spacers by the contacts

I have used the orange match cases and I also have a couple of SF carriers. The carriers are nice because you can also pack a spare drop-in.

melt- I don't smoke anything, grew up with a pharmacist mother
Alanp- Oh, and CR123s do fit in em. Thanks for the idea!
Sig-Op- I rolled up some duct tape sticky to sticky for that purpose. It also decreases rattling.
