I am looking for makers who make cheap custom knives for less than $100. It will be used for kitchen and general use. Stainless or carbon.

Funny. I've been researching inexpensive custom knives myself for the last two days in my spare minutes. My price was $250 or less. I can't REALLY help you, but here are my notes so far. Maybe you can get something out of them:

I know. I know. Doesn't help much but It's just some stuff I've collected over the last two days while looking for some inexpensive customs for a beginner like me.

You can do some of your own searching at:

Hope I was of some help. Share what you find too? -Jim

How about Billy Watson? He's got a few knives, carbon steel, and I think most of his designs are below- or at least not TOO much more- than $100. You'll wait a bit for his stuff, but its first class, simple designs that should serve you well in the kitchen. Just use mineral oil on the knives, or olive oil (which will leave a patina), and you should be fine! Hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Anthony

KnifeArt's site has a button for finding all the knives they sell in various price points. You could click the button for "under 250.00" knives (don't know if they have that exact amount on the button, maybe it's more like "less than $500.00") and then be presented with a whole bunch of selection within that range. If you don't see what you want, at least you can take note of the makers who are doing things within that range and then maybe can order what you want from one of them.

Since you are in PA, I could give you the name and phone # of a guy who makes custom knives for us to sell in the store. His knives are beautiful, and he's been at it for many, many years. He comes in about once a week just to show me his newest knives, because he knows I love them. His craftsmanship and materials are tops. He's also a really nice, and really interesting guy. I can't say enough good things about him. We often refer people to him who need knives fixed or handles replaced, or custom sheaths made. And he can just look at a new kind of lock on a folder, then go home and duplicate it.

Among the numerous other suggestions here, I'll second the advice on John Greco knives. He's selling off his stock and every one of his knives now go for $75 or less. Last I knew, he had some folders and various fixed blades left. He uses a tool-grade steel which, according to him, has about the same rust resistance as D2. His knives are great and he's a great guy to work with.
