I have my entire EDC setup complete, but I'd like to carry a cheap backup/loaner for the things I wont use my more expensive blades for.
I want something small, with good steel,no tanto and a pocket clip is essential.I don't really want to go above $30

Right now I'm looking at these:

Boker Trance: decent steel, useful blade tip,not too intimidating, Handle seems OK

Boker Keycom:Very acute point, small size, decent steel, useful blade tip,not too intimidating, Handle seems OK

Kershaw Chill - decent steel, flipper design=fun!!,good grip handle,OK blade shape

Byrd Meadowlark2 - same steel as the chill, nice g-10 handle/FRN both look good, slightly better blade shape, full flat grind

Which of these would you prefer? Or what would your choice be?

SOG Flash 1 has been my EDC for years. It's been through it all. Been used as a pry tool, scraper, screwdriver. All those situations where all one has is their knife.

The way the clip is on this knife is what seals the deal for me:

Out of the ones listed, I would go with the trance. The keycom to me is a little to small and Ive never handled the other two. My recommendation would be a Spyderco Ladybug. Good steel, under 30 bucks at most places. Its a great little knife.

Wasn't listed, but Spyderco's Tenacious or Persistence are amazing knives for the price (under $30).

This knife will be going into a sort of pocket edc kit (its a small pouch with organiser pockets) so it kinda needs to be a slim profile. The 2 Bokers are very thinly profiled so for my purposes I like them the best out of the ones I listed, also the Keycom is in the list as that probably all the blade I will need.

Just adding in the specific use and requirements to help you understand what I'm asking

the Kabar dozier folders are pretty slim, super light, good locks (lockback) and AUS 8 steel I believe. Also very inexpensive. I bought one for a backup to my backups.

So...let me get this straight. You have a whole set of Every Day Carry knives that you won't use for every day tasks? Tell me again why you carry a knife every day?

Sigh...If you need a good reliable blade for not much money, you can look at the Byrds or Kabar Doziers. The Buck Nobleman would also work.

Are you planning to EDC it with pens?
If so a basic pocket protector might be the way to go, but the knife being in it might scare the regular people around your office if it is too big.

I'm having an incredible time trying to wrap my brain around this statement. Why would you want a less expensive knife to actually use than the better quality ones in your pocket? Knives are tools guy, use them.

When I said I have my EDC setup was complete,i meant there was one knife in my edc bag.what I'm trying to say is I'm looking for a loaner/knife I can ruin an edge on and not care.I use my knives, but I wont loan one of my better knives to one of my non-knife friends or use on something that I know will screw up the edge and then be stuck with a blunt knife .Sorry for any confusion.

Another factor that I should've noted is that I carry everything in a Maxpedition EDC pocket organizer.I have my better knife, flashlight and multitool in my pockets or on my belt. What I want to do is make the organizer self-sufficient.So other than the items it already has,it will also have it's own multitool, flashlight and knife. This is so that for whatever reason,I don't have anything on me,that I can just grab the small pouch and go (kind of like a small urban survival kit) I wish it was easier to explain.

Definitely go with a SOG Flash 1 with no TiNi coating or serrations. That would be a good loaner knife for about 30 bucks shipped. I don't care what people think about this knife as an EDC. Imo it is one of the best knives in that price range.

Also the CRKT DRIFTER along with that Buck Nobleman. Two underrated but superb blades
