Howdy Folks,

How do you go about finding the REAL bargains for airline flights. My Wife and I want to travel out to Washington state for a couple of weeks in the Spring. We would most likely fly out of Norfolk. I keep hearing about the $89 flights but cant seem to find anything less than around $370 per person.

Thanks for any advice :)

Mark

I hate shopping around for this kind of thing. I have used Orbitz. Usually I try to use southwest air lines, but be prepared for a many-sop flight and secondary airports.

Southwest was just running a special that ended 3/3 - sorry! This special pricing was available at their website. I just went there and rang up a similar flight, and did find some $79 promotional pricing left.

Wife and I just booked round trip to Seattle and back at $79 for 1 way (times 4, there and back for the 2 of us) for our upcoming honeymoon.

My wife likes to plan for vacations, so I left the details up to her. She told me that she found comparable pricing getting the deals directly from the source, as compared to going through bargain-finding sites (ala Expedia, Travelocity, etc). She booked our final night at a hotel in Seattle, and told me that after you add the $20 charge that the bargain-sites charge, she saved $2 by booking the rooms directly from the hotel.

In and out of Washington State, about the only deals you're gonna find are in and out of Seattle/Tacoma airport, Seatac, also known in the travel biz as SEA. So, start by going to Seatac's website. Find out what airlines go in and out of Seatac and then go to their websites and see what's available.

I'll be that your best deals will be on Southwest.

And remember, book early.

And as you compare airline prices on websites, don't forget to compare apples-to-apples. Taxes and fees can run 30% of an airplane ticket. Some sites include them in the original price presents. Other's don't tack them on until the very end. So, you may think you're getting a great deal and then find out when you reach check out that your great deal isn't so great after all the taxes and fees are piled on.
