I have to admit that I really like 'wave' knives which, since I don't care for most of the Emerson knives, means 'ghetto wave' in reality. Both of my Benchmades were bought with thumb holes that let me do the zip-tie wave feature for little to no investment (mini-Grip and 806D2 AFCK).
But, there's plenty of other knives that I like as well, and they often have thumb studs instead of thumb holes. Were I to add the wave feature to them, I'd probably have to heli-arc on a little hook that I could make in our machine shop. It could look and work well, or it could look like total crap and not work at all- I'm really not sure.
So, it'd probably be easiest to try it on some cheapie folder that would at least be representative of how it might work on nicer folders. There's both a Wal-Mart and a Sportsmans Warehouse near me, and those two places have a pretty broad range of knives. Anybody know of a knife at either place that would be a good choice for this experiment? It would need to be a fairly standard thumb stud knife that opened fairly smoothly for it to work at all, I'd imagine (if it had a thumb hole, I could just zip-tie wave it).
When doing it, I'm sure we'll have to be fairly careful with the heat to keep it localized and not ruin the heat treat of the knife, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Any thoughts?
