Cheap Griptilian Scales?

I've got a Griptilian from 2010. It is my hard use folder and you can tell. They blade has a recurve from a belt sander and has been convexed and brought back about 3 different times.

I want to replace the blade for $30 but the scales are also completely destroyed. They still function fine but there are grind marks on the fronts from the aforementioned belt sander, there is a couple of small cracks, and even some burn marks.

On Benchmades site, they explicitly say that they usually don't replace scales for warranty purposes. Would I be able to buy some directly from them? I would buy a custom made set but, like I said, it is my beater and I don't want to spend $80 on scales.

P.S.- I have the old style 550HG with the round hole. If I replaced it, would it come with an oval hole? I don't like the new oval holes at all and would prefer a 551 shape. BM says they don't usually change blade shales, but again, this was for the warranty, not buying a new one.

Thanks and Sorry for the long post

Got any pics? I got rid of some extra ones I had otherwise would offer them to ya. You"ll see people sell factory orginals from time to time. Maybe start a want to buy thread for them and see if you get any offers. I personally haven't heard of Benchmade replacing them but never hurts to give them a call and ask.

Can you please post a pic of them? Curious. Can't believe the plastic would crack.

You could post in the Want to buy section of the Exchange that you want to buy some factory scales. Lots of folks has extras laying around once they start putting aftermarket/custom scales on their Griptilians.
I have seen them for sale more than once in the Exchange for about $15.

Yes please post pics.

OK so cracks my have been an overstatement haha. There are some TINY breaks near the edges that occurred after lots of drops onto concrete/asphalt. I'll try and post pictures tonight but I'm not sure that they will show up.

Yeah, I figured some would have them for sale after they replaced them but I am impatient and lazy so I just kind of wanted to see if I could get them directly from BM. Thanks guys

Just call BM and ask them. Tell them you want to send it in for a blade replacement, but the scales are messed up too, and you want to know if they will replace them for a reasonable fee.
It certainly isn't a warranty issue, unless there was a flaw in them when they were made. They are probably the toughest scales you can find on a knife...

Just an FYI about the 550. The old versions have the oval holes. The newer versions are round.

I literally just promised my old scales to someone else on the forum. I had them from a few days ago cause I snagged some awt scales from amazon.

Thanks TBone, but this was more of a future possibility instead of something right now. If I do decide to do this, I'll ask Benchmades directly to see what they say.

Also, Thanks Mike. I just assumed that the ovals were new because I got mine 5 years ago and didn't see any ovals until a couple years ago.
