I have a KaBar Dozier spearpoint, and it's a great $20 knife. I was thinking about getting the thumb-hole version, which I like better than studs, but now I'm looking at the Mini-Pika, which is in the same price range. Buying both is not an option right now, what do you think? If it matters, the Pika would be my first BM.

I've heard the Pika is kinda so-so...why not save up a little for a SpyderCo? You could get a Dragonfly or a Delica (seems to be a favorite) for around 40$...

I'm guessing that if "buying both is not an option right now", then "buying one at twice the price" isn't, either ;)

Cheap knives with crappy steel have their uses, just as expensive knives with premium steel (not that the Dozier or Pika are crappy by any means). I'd love to see an honest, objective sub-$30 throwaway knife shootout (er, sliceout?).

I've heard nothing but good about the Kabar Dozier series. I don't have one myself though.

Have you considered something from Kershaw? The Vapor gets good reviews and is in the same price range. The new Kershaw Storm series look like a good value as well.
