I know this isnt a usual exotic knife review but
I was recently ordering several knives for gifts and I wanted to get five
cheap clunkers to throw into the tool boxes to do things you would never
want to do with a nice knife. At the time at Eknifeworks.com which
I think is the best online store ( and the worlds largest display knife retailer)
was were having a weekend special with all Rough rider knives at $5 each
which turns out to have been half price.

This is the knife I bought five of for 25 bucks
http://eknifeworks.com/webapp/eComm...t=&Mode=Brand&Brand=229&PriceStart=&SKU=RR372
Which is the Dog Leg Stockman.

Yesterday I spent the whole day caulking my house in preparation for
painting and I used one of these knives all day to cut away old caulk
from windows and siding and sometimes brick which was very painful
to have to do to any knife. cutting caulk off brick is just grinding
and scrapeing that new sharp edge over the mortar and brick surfaces.

I fully expected to snap the blade off several times when trying to
pry out some caulk but it never happened and a couple of times
the little shorter blades really were the better choice and came in
very handy. ( the whole reason I love slip joint pocket knives )

All in all the little knife performed its kamakazi mission flawlessly.
and I'm trying to say that at the regular price of $10 these little knives
are quite a deal if pure destruction is anticipated. I figured they
were going to be a one use and throw em away just like the razors
in contractors knives but I think I'll resharpen this one and keep it.

If you watch eknifeworks.com em and they have the sale again at 5
bucks each let me know please as I want to buy five more as gifts !

PS. maybe not as good a deal as the $1.99 mini multi-tool currently
being sold nationwide at HomeDepot !

I bought one of their lockbacks a few months ago, just to check them out. I was pleasantly suprised with the fit and finish.

So since it's Christmas time I am looking to introduce some of my nephew's to knives, (they are over 18.) Anyway without breaking the bank on gifts are the RR worth getting? Not just for 5.00/each but in general???

I read here that even the new Steel Warriors look good or OK for the $$.

I got a Rough Rider Toothpick this past summer , nothing to complain about at all , takes a great edge and looks nice , great F&F and $12.

A word of warning though , Chinese knives like Rough Rider get a rough reception around here. :D

Well, I was curious too, so I bought one. It's a Peanut in their gunstock series (checkered bone handle). Great little knife, finished as well as a lot of recent case knives I've seen lately. Takes a good edge and seems to hold it adequately. I like it so well that I bought another one, a whittler pattern. Both knives were under $10.00 apiece. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least. May have to try a lockback folder next.

Sure, they are not Chris Reeves, but for 10.00 are they pure :barf:
I remember getting a cheap SAK clone when I was a kid, pure trash, put me off the SAK for a while before I knew the real ones were great (Have a VIC Camper with me)

From a few reviews here they sound OK. Will have to give them a try.

It appears to me that the Frost Steel Warrior, Rough Riders, and Marbles
slip joint knives are made by the same mfg in China. Like I said, I have bought
ten recently ( five different Marbles to be used as gifts and five of the Rough
Riders ) I know this perhaps doesnt help our US knife makers but still the
values these offer are undeniable. In my case I wanted to sprinkle knives
all around my glove boxes, trunks and tool boxes with knives I could abuse
or lose and not worry about it. But turns out the damn things are very
attractive and tough. For the last 20 years I have been buying the
cheap ugly Pakastani made folding knives for on the job abusive work
projects but no more. The China knives have the finish equivalent of
US products. I'm not boycotting US products, Im just pointing out
if you want to buy many cheap knives that look and work well, these
are great.
