Hi everybody

Anybody own cheap knives from Edgework Imports guys? I stumbled across few nice looking pieces from this seller "Damascus" Bowies costing about 60-90 USD, are they worth to try, or is it waste of money? Obviously at this price, nobody can expect premium damascus knife, they actually resemble some cheap Pakistan eBay "Damascus" stock.... Seller is based in Dallas in Texas, according website... Anyone ordered from this company here something? (not asking about majority of 10-30 bucks knives they sell, but those, they call "Damascus" about 80-90 bucks a piece) what sort of steel it actually is in reality ?

Thanks

Junk. No I haven't ordered from them. Why would I? I also haven't stuck a pencil into my eardrum.

Where the seller is "based" has nothing to do with where the knives they sell are made. Several companies selling Bowies try a similar tactic. Common ruse.

Fully understand your philosophy, however I was more or less looking for first hand experience with their "Damascus" blades....Someone who actually gave it a shot and tried

In looking at the available pieces, they are indeed cheap Pakistani Damascus. I have made the mistake of spending money on similar blades a few years back before I took the dive into high end knives. Its real Damascus....the problem is you don't know for sure what type of steel is being used, and the heat treat process is not tested or guaranteed. In their postings they list it at 55-60, that's a pretty big gap...meaning not each blade is tested, and the ones that are vary in HRC. More often than not the true HRC will be low 50's to high 40's. The one I had barely kept an edge, and would roll or chip very easily. Even the handle, which looked good in pictures, was shotty when I got it in hand...take my advice: Take the $50-$80 you were willing to spend and set it aside until you can save up for a piece made from Damascus that you know has been forged and heat treated properly. I ended up eventually giving mine away because I couldn't even re-sell the piece of junk. If you are really itching to get into some Damascus right away, look into a Kershaw Shallot, Leek, or Scallion in Damascus. They run about $50-$100, are made in America, and use Alabama Damascus with a proper heat treat. Cant go wrong there, and they are relatively easy to find.

You should buy one yourself then if you really want. I'm sure you won't find many other. sophisticated knife fans who were willing to sink the money on low grade Pakistani "damascus."

Like I said, I have never stuck a pencil into my eardrum just to experience it.
