Andy, are you going to offer JRE or other cheaper sheath options with your machetes?

I haven't found anything yet. Imacassa sent a couple of samples of a cordura (POS) sheath. I threw them away.

Honestly, I can't afford to buy and provide sheaths for these machetes. I will send a set out to any sheathmaker who wants to provide them for sale to my customers. But I don't plan to make or stock 600 sheaths.

Making the second one for mine in a few days with some help input from John Hutcheson (A friend whose been making knives and his own sheaths for about 25 years now) on the welting and sewing...it'll be heavier leather and look better than the first one I promise, I love John's leather work. If you like the look of it when I'm done I can probably do one of those at a reasonable price. I have a 12 inch on hand but for the others I'd likely have to drive down to Andy's and draw out patterns.

mistwalker - That's cool. Let's see what you make!

I'm still trying to make a decision on the belt loop. I only made the loop on the one I have now the way it is because that was literally the longest piece I had and all I had on hand. I was thinking then that I wished I could have made a longer loop and on a dangler the problem is that I've gotten used to this one and kinda like it. So I have been wearing just gear and there around the yard, sitting on logs at times...even at my desk a few times trying to be sure which way I want to go. Can't do anything about it till Monday anyway so I thought I'd use the time to see which I really want, or if I want to make a combination of the too with a removable dangler.

Of course, all this inquiring will mean I'll have to actually acquire a FB machete or four... :o

I've only held the 12 and the 14 I think at Blade...don't remember checking out the 16 as it was a shorter machete I was interested in...and only own the 12. I fell in love with it then and there but after using it a good bit it is just absolutely awesome as far as I'm concerned and it has had a great influence on my thoughts on the next large chopper (a knife with 5/32 or thicker steel) I get. I love the handle of this thing...I mean I love it all around, weight distribution, blade shape and all, but the handle really does it for me. I'll definitely be getting another one.

mist - How thick is your machete? And how is it as a chopper? I have some condors at 1/8" and they chop really well.

The 12" machetes are made from 3mm steel. They taper the blade butt to tip. Its fast and choppy.

Wildmanh makes a solid very well made machete sheath, and he is not expensive at all!

Yep, like Andy said, but it's a slow taper the first 2/3 of the blade. 0.121 at the handle, 0.119 about 2/3 out toward the tip then a faster taper from there.

These are what action pics I've taken with it so far, I'm working on a good review of it for the general knife reviews now.
