I found this knives in our local German meat shop. It is Messermeister priced around $6, X55 CR MO V14 - Zolingen's steel similar to AUS6/440A with 0.55% С, 15% C, some moly and vanadium.

They are very handy in the kitchen - as I was told by my expert. And thay just gorgeus:

Like Cristmas tree toys.

Initially I got this two, but then add yellow and orange handled.

I think they may be quite usefull all around the house.

Thanks, Vassili.

Very nice. They remind me of the Forschner's paring knives. I guess if you use the mnimum necessary steel quality in thin stock, you don't have to charge much for light utility. Great advertising for the rest of their knives, too.

This is also great way to fight cheap low quality imitations - if cheap knives from respected brand with same quality but may be plastic handles, and low price optimized design will exsist - who need to by cheap imitations? And still market for expencive knives will exist.

Other interestin thought - this bright colors on handles looks awsome! I like to have same colors on my EDC - easy to find, hard to lose. I think G10 may be any color also. May be our knife designers will look at this matter.

Thanks, Vassili.

Very cool. Never seen those before.

Victorinox has a similar paring knife too, $1.50. I don't think the Vic has any choice of blade shapes or handle colors though.

I think the Victorinox are or were sold under the Forschner name.

Opinel also sells a paring knife/steak knife in that same timeless format, but with a wooden handle.

Colored handles are a great idea, especially for a working environment, putting them down, losing track of them. I like yellow or orange for visibility. The funniest colored handles are camouflage. Take it in the woods and the deer won't see it in your pocket -- neither will you if you drop it in the leaves underfoot! :D

unfortunately all my handles are a dark shade of black although that may change when i get my orange spydie rescue!

The Forschner and Victorinox paring knives are probably the same knife, but mine is marked, "Victorinox".

Checking out SMKW just now, Victorinox paring knives are available with a couple of different blade shapes, and some color choices (red, black, or white), and available with wood handles. Current prices are $3 - $8 each, or a 6pc set for $20.

I'd have to handle both brands side-by-side to determine if I liked the Vic or the German knives better.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Very nice. I also like the Spyderco kitchen knives which are on sale now as they are being discontinued. They make a great Santuko, a good chef knife, and some very nice serrated 6" and 4" kitchen paring knives.

If you are looking for good deals on kitchen knives checkout the K-mart Martha Stewart forged and riveted knives. There are some review around and they beat several of the very highend manufacturers. I bought some on the way to camp and was really surprised by the quality. The only negative was that they needed to be sharpened which took all of 5 mins.
