Howdy all! Well I'm about to take posession of my first damascus knife. This one is going to be an EDC, and here in the Northeast is going to need some rust protection! As the thread title suggests, I'm looking for a cheap, readily available, food safe protectant. I'm thinking wax is the best way to go for it, but I need one that I'd be able to find at a local Brick and Mortar store. I only see Ren Wax for sale online, but I'm not sure if there's somewhere around here (Boston- south shore) that I would be able to pick some up. Mr. Ealy says he uses Turtle wax, but I'm not sure if that'd work or not (or if it'd be food safe). Any ideas would be appreciated!

You can get Briwax at WoodCraft - which has retail locations.

Bee's wax would also work.

Personally, I wipe off my kitchen knives (or any knife that will touch food) with mineral oil.

I know that mineral oil is used for handles and such to keep them from drying out (this will also be my first horn-handled- Pronghorn- knife), but will it create the kind of barrier that I'm looking for?

The knife is going to sit in the sheath most days, and come out at night. I'm not sure how much food-prep it'll do, but in case I wanted to make sure I wasn't putting anything toxic on the blade.

I had heard Bri-wax worked for damascus blades, but I wasn't sure because its only listed for furniture on the package. Good for blades then? Neat!
