Just came across something that looks suspiciously like a Scott Cook Lochsa - except made by "Kevin John" in China. Why does that auction site allow this junk to be posted? And can something be done to protect intellectual property from foreign counterfeiters. I have to say, the counterfeiting looks to be getting better all the time. Scary. That auction site shouldn't allow this stuff to be listed at all, right? Hope this link works:

If $499,99's cheap I'd hate to see how much a real Scott Cook Lochsa is worth!

"Kevin John" makes Sebenzas too, apparently. Just the name of some company in China churning out other people's designs. At least they don't pretend that they're the real thing.
Not that it matters. Anyone who really wants a Sebenza will settle for nothing less than a Sebenza. The ripoffs are for people who wouldn't buy the real thing anyway, and the fakes are for those who are too stupid to exercise a bit of caution when buying from someone who's not a reputable dealer. They deserve what they get.
I doubt Reeve or Cook will lose any sleep over this.

If Scott Cook complains, they will take it down but I doubt eBay will know without being told that this is a knock-off. Chris Reeve's people take action if knock-offs appear, I've reported eBay knock-offs to them before and they were most grateful.

Setting aside the intellectual property issue, the old question - what is something worth? - comes to mind. Is it really worth what someone will pay for it? Is a Kevin John, or a Scott Cook?

Still, from the pix, the knife looks pretty good.
Lenny

The one specially-prepared knife for the photo probably does look good. And photoshop makes it look even better. But how will your knife look? At the price, I'm not sure I want to find out.

Yeah. They also have "Strider" knives, "Sebenza's", something that looks like a Brend, "Rick Hinderer", "Benchmade", and a "Gerber".

Where do I send the money?

Looks like somebody bought it, you would think people would do a bit of research before spending $500 on a knife

The photos of the Brend, Benchmade, Gerber, etc... in some cases are pics of the real knife.

Hit the buy it now, and ye olde 'Bait and Switch' goes into effect.

Good luck with the return policy.....................................

That Kevin John sure knows how to make some fine steel......... Dear god....... How far will these copies go

i have buy this knife directly from china. it is perfect. no blade-play. sharp. i can make you photo of any part of knife.

If they make what looks like a ferrari in China, that doesn't mean it's a ferrari. It's not the same knife, just looks the same.

It doesn't matter if your knife is as good as an original. Doesn't even matter if your knife is better than the original. Blatantly ripping off someone's design and name is a scumbag thing to do. And it's a crime.
