Cheap Smokey Mountain stuff?

Er, uhh, well, you see that's one of those things my therapist says I shouldn't talk about to avoid the flashbacks . . . actually no, but I've bought cheap Paki crap before I developed my current refined, expensive taste and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I only buy the smokin' deals SMKW manages to get sometimes on Spyderco and Marbles.

Why bother? For 10 or 15 bucks more you can get a Camillus, Buck, or sometimes even a Spydie. Don't buy crap, you'll pay more in medical bills when your blade slaps shut on your fingers.
Matt

I know they're crap, I just want to know people's experiences with them:D (wish they'd stop selling it, but then again, their catalog would only be 2/3 it's current size)

I'm with Roadrunner on this. I bought all my cheap crap before I found BF. Fortunately, I managed to unload most of it without taking too much of a loss on it.

Some crap is better smelling - stil smells like crap.
I find that the snap-on-fingers Pakistani folders are only slightly superceded by factory knock-off type Taiwanese and Chinese made folders. I have handled some really really so awfully bad Pakistani "attempted" Buck-110 models that looked like they were put together with an angle grinder by a guy with no thumbs. You get the occasional good knife, but its usually entirely an accident on the part of the factory / maker. And its still some doubtful steel / HT.

My suggestion is that unless you can personally handle, test the knife in question, don't even think of getting one. Even more important, don't get any mail-order stuff. I swear these things ferment to smell even worse in the mail. You almost always get the junk reject one.

From bad experience before I knew better. Jason.

I have bought cheap Pak/India in the past before I saw the light(Spyderco).Their knives will rust over night and I could never get an edge on them. NEVER AGAIN

I had one buck 110 knock-off. Actually, I manage to put a shaving edge on it using just the normal carborendum stones. Dunno how long the edge lasted tho', cos I gave 'em to me dad (he just chucked them in the drawer at me childhood room). ;)
