looking for 3/8" to 1/2" thick nickel silver (1" thick would be nice too). I know it can be had at the regular knifemaking supply shops, but it's expensive...!$$!

are there better sources out there?

p.s. I'm not set up to cast my own...:(

Good luck Dan,

I was looking for some a couple month ago. $$$ is right. Never cam up with a viable source.

yeah...I stopped looking after I saw the costs!

Check with a foundry metal supplier -- you might find you can buy a 20 lb ingot for what you pay for a small piece from a knife supply house then just saw off what you need. We buy finished castings for only about $5.00 a lb and that is lost wax cast.
Good luck

Good info! Thanks, Pete!

not to get off the subject, BUT....

What can be used to pour melted brass or copper in to create small 1 x 1 x .25 pieces? Would a plaster mould work?

Jeff - are you serious in your search for this? If you're willing to cut some pieces for me, I'll make it worth your time...$:D$

you can use steel for ingot molds. I might have to look into casting some. I'll let people know if I do.

I don't know what is considered cheap but you might try this place out.

Edit:
Let me know if it isn't cheap and I'll see what else I can do.:)

They have a 3/8"x3/4"x12" piece selling for $36.99

Texas Knife Supply has the same piece for $21.95

(which to me was expensive... :()

I think that it is in Canadian dollars...

thanks....makes it $26.94 instead of $36.99 vs. $21.95 (USD)

Still too much for me.....:(

Blgoole, For a mold to pour copper or nickle silver into find a small chanel bar
that has the right inside dimensions then weld ends on it and just pore it full.
That is what I use to pour Pewter ingots into small bars that I can use. Gib
