Hey guys so i got my call and im of to my basic training at the end of this month to join the Canadian armed forces! :) and to my surprise i am allowed to being one folding knife that is non assisted, and not to exceed 6 inches in blade length, so what im looking for a is a high corrosion resistant blade as i wont be able to have any lubricant or rust inhibitors as they are flamible and or toxic/poisons and there by prohibited items :(. so not wanting to spend over 40 dollars. what would you recommend?

Thanks for your time :)

i have had a lot of rust issues with AUS-8 in the past so im a little concerned and the voyager will run me 60+ bucks here in Canada, the low price point is due to the fact of having it lost, stolen and the lack of maintenance and care it will get

The Voyager is cheaper if you buy online (I got my Large Vaquero for $43 and I'm up here too, just takes a bit longer shipping...)

You sound like you want a Spyderco Salt series but those are a bit more than $40.

That surprises me too, 6 inches of folder?! wow.

hows is 8cr13mov for rust? i see there is a coated version of the Tenacious would it be worth the few extra bucks or is the steel ok uncoated?

8cr13MoV has been fine (for me at least). Just spit on the blade and wipe it on your pants or sleeve or fingers or whatever if you get gunk on it.

alright thanks :) i like the cara cara its under 20 for the FRN vision, unable to find a retailer in canada that has the One Ton

I have a One Ton and I like it. The grip is uncomfortable for smaller hands though; I find it works best with a thumb on top of the spine. The point is also kind of blunt.

Victorinox One hand trekker. $35. From my days of service, you will find it much more useful than "just a knife". ETA: Just missed ya, but the Cara Cara is a solid knife for the money, should serve well. Good luck, and safe travels.

spyderco tenacious or the bigger resilience

or the ontario rat 1 folder

personally i would go with either the spyderco tenacious or resilience because of the hole in the blade makes it easier to open the knife if you have gloves on.

.

I think the Resilience is a very good suggestion. I'd also suggest the Benchmade HK Acender. I've found the steel to be very corrosion resistant and the knife to be very good quality overall.

Good luck!
