Cheaper alternative to Marathon TSAR

$290 for sapphire crystal, tritium vials, and the beefy design isn't bad. You can get a lot of nice Seiko and Citizen quartz movements at that price-point. Do you know if they will be releasing an automatic version?

Mmmm... I'm not sure. Will have to asked Anders Tan (owner of the brand) about it.

This may sound stupid but I want a watch that'll tell time without me doing anything much, or at least one that I can take reference to...

Problem with my Pam, Sinn , Rolex Sub and RXW is that they are either automatic or hand-wound... And I've been late to more than enough appointments to realise that I forgot to wind them up (trying to grab that extra 10 min of sleep :foot: ).

Way I figure is that I can either get a watch winder (but doesn't solve my Pam and RXW problem...:jerkit: ) or I can get this watch to take reference against before I leave the house every morning. And I can even wear it (which of course I can't with a watch winder).

However, if I explained the purchase in this manner to my wife, she'll probably point out that I already have a Ecozilla, stainless steel Ecozilla and a Casio Triplesensor.

Well... I'm a gadget and watch freak....:o

BTW, a review can be read here... Nice pics too...

just buy the dievas, you know you want it, Sean. with so many PAMs, what's the difference...lol.

when I spoke with Anders, he said there were no plans to make an auto - the price would be quite expensive.

Spyken: Got it!

It's nice... Very glad that I chose this over Marathon. The price (together with the bracelet that comes with it...at no extra cost) makes this a good choice for an EDC watch.

Fit and finish are pretty good.

No pics for now as the pics in WatchUSeek are better than what I can take. I, sort of, have a rep in Malaysian Knife Forum for taking crappy pics.

i dont know.

never even heard of marathon. but if i was buying a watch in that pricerange it would definitely be of a very known swiss brand like certina, tissot etc. or seiko. however i believe you cant get a really nice watch for less than a grand, couldnt care less about autos tho, no matter how qualified/precise they are. had one for 3 years, didnt like it. thank fu..ing god for batteries. my next watch will be a used vacheron constantin from 2001-2002 or so (the new ones looks soo ugly), the diver model, well that one is an auto, but i really like their design, so i have to make an exception. thats a real watch, and they know their shit imo.

imho its a good idea to have seen and handled a marathon before commenting on its suitability/etc, but thats just me lol. if ya are looking for a watch in that style they are pretty darned good and better, imho, than tissot for sure.

Well... I agree that Marathon makes pretty good watches. However, if I can have an alternative (at a cheaper price), why not? Anyway, I'm using the Dievas for my working/knocking-around watch. So, better pricing coupled with equivalent quality (as Marathon TSAR) is a very obvious choice. The tritium tubes are way too cool.

I also agree that watches from $1k onwards are pretty nice. But I just can't see myself wearing the Pam, Rolex or even the RXW on my construction site!

However, I'll stay away from the battery vs automatic discussions. :)
If you go into any watch forums, any discussions like that will more or less end up like our SNG vs Sebenza threads. :D

BTW, I prefer the dial of the Dievas (44mm) to Marathon TSAR (40mm)as I find the later a tad too busy... Too much information squeezed onto too little space. And the latest ones have got "US Government" printed on them. Cool... but the problem is that I don't live in US and am not a US citizen.
