Cheaper Compression Lock Folder

Can we get a roughly $70 folder with the Compression Lock? Preferably Endura-sized with 90's Endura blade shape. Would like another Compression Lock Spydie, but not going over $100 for folders anymore.

Who else would want one?

I thought Para 2s could be picked up for under $100 at one time, but regardless, they seem to be the most inexpensive of the compression lock folders that size. While I understand your not wanting to spend over $100, the Para 2 is an excellent all around folder.

I had an original Paramilitary I picked up in '05 for $150 that I really loved. I don't really need the S30V or G-10 though, just want the Compression Lock. I like to sharpen my knives and FRN, Zytel, Grivory works plenty good. Basically A+ design with B+ materials for a good price. Working man's knife like the Delica, Endura, Native, etc.

The difference of going a couple more days without a sharpening touch-up isn't a big enough difference to use a $100+ folder over my $38 Voyager. But I'd pay $65-70 for Spydie hole and Compression Lock with Sal ergonomics and blade shape.

Good idea, I would love to see an affordable compression lock EDC. The paramilitary 2 just does it for me!

I really like the Salsa. Well, except for the aluminum scales. A lined G10 Salsa for $80, though...yeah. :)

Since it would have to be made in Golden, it would need a reasonably priced steel available easily in the US. Sandvik 13c26 would be my vote, though D2, 154CM and 440C each have their strong points.

Ah man...i should get paid for the amount of good info i give LOL

There's other place where you can find one just like it for 24$ or so, shipped!

Nothing like coming into Sal's house and suggesting someone buy a Chinese ripoff of the compression lock.

I guess you don't mind when people steal from you?

Wow.

That's about as close to to the compression lock as you can possibly get. Jimped finger-choil made into the blade's kick/ricasso that forms a full choil with the lines of the handle (and a jimped thumb-ramp). Uses flat-surfaced textured G10 scales in a very Spyderco-like shape with drilled-out liners.

Very Spyderco-like pocket-clip, and a Spyderco/Byrd hole that they slightly changed the shape (oh, and 8CR13MOV).

Puzzle-lock? Uh - that is a left-handed compression lock unless I'm missing something? I've watched the video several times and found this:

http://www.google.com/patents?id=rgXTAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4#v=onepage&q&f=false

I don't know how that is not considered a patent violation of the compression lock unless they got permission (the patent cites Spyderco's Compression lock).

That's pretty crazy - even the drawings look pretty similar. I'd love to hear from Sal or someone on this.

Here's Spyderco's Patent:

I dont know about the first one, but if it is anything like a Navy knife forget it.

Shoddy fit and finish, the steel is comparable to AUS 6A when you thin it out (comes very thick from factory) and what ever 'G10' they use it goes smooth within a weeks EDC. I tested one of their BladeTech copies for another forum. Wont recommend it.

Save the extra cash, buy a Para 2.

The Spyderco Vesuvius is an ATS-34 Spyderco with a great form. It uses the compression lock and my cousin picked one up in great condition with the box for 65$

I would recommend that since ATS-34 is a good steel, or a yojimbo 2 but i personally fall in love head over heels with the paramilitary 2

Sorry, I didn't realize he wanted other spyderco with compression lock.
I tought he was asking for an alternative!
English is not my mother tongue so i, sometimes, misread posts!
Sorry folks.
Never tried any of the ones I suggested but had two paras2. A digi camo and one in cts-20cp.
I would recommend you to buy a para2.
However all my paras came with bladeplay so I sold them.
Would be great to have one without it though!

Don't know what you mean by that, but according to the drawing, the stop-pin is used exactly the same way the compression lock's is.

no. if you read the puzzle lock patent they use a cutout in the tang. so the tab in the lock is only in contact with the blade, while the top of the tab in the compression lock rests on the stop pin. the patent points to this.

It looks (to me) like it protrudes a tiny bit, but the stop-pin is still in contact with both the lock-bar and the tang of the blade. If that's the difference between the two designs, then it's a tiny one.

I haven't looked up the patent, but what you are describing sounds like the nak lock that Benchmade uses.

the way i understand it is that for the puzzle lock, the tab on the locking liner fits into a notch in the blade like a puzzle piece. this is different, although slightly, from the compression lock that compresses the locking tabs between the hand and stop pin.

anyway, back to the subject. i would love to see a 154cm or vg10 para 2 with different colored frn handles. it would be like a new delica/endura series
