For the past couple of weeks I,ve been carrying this
A Rough Rider in a leather cross draw sheath made by Carl Thomas.
It used it to open packages cut rope even some small saplings (less then quarter inch).
Easy to put an edge back on I don,t know the steel they use maybe someone else will. But I feel a lot less worried about losing or damaging this than something like my Nielson custom knife, and for less than $40.00 I think it was a great buy (time will tell).. but hell if I lose confidence in it the Sheath was worth the price to me,
Anyone else carry Cheap fixed blades, to save their expensive ones...

Save them for what? I buy my knives to use. I use my B.Goode custom whenever I am in the woods. I am very careful not to lose it though.;)

I know your right in a way, but if I lose this and buy another one like it' but if I lost a 5 or 6 hundred dollar knife, I might Cry.

Morakniv are great deals. For the price of a pizza and beer, any Mora is a lot of knife. Throw one in the glove box of your car.

When you receive one, don't be so quick to judge. Use it first, then judge.

I know what you are saying. I actually had a close call last month. I dressed out my deer and put my custom in this pouch I keep all my field dressing supplies in. I strapped the pouch to my belt and dragged my deer out of the woods when I realized the pouch had partially unzipped and my knife and sheath had fallen out !:eek:The elation of getting my buck was tempered by my knife being lost.:grumpy:Luckily the next morning I went back and found my knife near my tree stand.:D I would have been really upset considering not only the price but the fact that Brian isn't even taking more orders because of his back log.

I don't have any Rough Rider products, but I do carry a very inexpensive but capable fixed blade for hiking, motorcycling, and work. The cost doesn't enter into it; I really do prefer this little knife over more expensive items. The size, weight, and safety are the primary factors.

This is one reason I like my BK14 so much. Lost one over the side of a boat about a year ago and shelled out $35 and had another within a few days...
