I went to the garden this morning while the coffee was brewing and snaped some shots of this Bulldog Brand EZ-Open Jack made by GEC. I have to say the quality of this knife is outstanding. I think the "other" brands made by GEC are over looked but with their price points they are a great find. How do you guys feel about them?

I have the GEC Schrade Trapper models also and am hard pressed to find anything wrong with them. They are made in the same factory with the same materials and I guess because of brand names the CHEAPER price comes in.

The Bulldogs are sweet, I bought one because I wanted to try out the sheepfoot and it's turned out to be a great little slicer.

I should get a Schrade before they're all gone, after all I only own one GEC Scout(!)

I have limited experience with GEC knives (a total of two), but was disappointed (blade play, fit and finish, scale shrinkage, etc.). These were $100+ knives. I'd never buy another one regardless of price. Back to Case for me.

And you posted this because it had what to do with the topic?

To the OP's comment. I also enjoy some of GEC's other offerings. The bulldogs with the matchstrike nail nicks are pretty cool. They also did a dog paw keychain knife last year that looked great.

Where are you seeing the matchstrike nail nicks (pulls) on the Bulldog Brand easy open?

The ones shown with matchstrike nail nicks so far in this thread are Schrade Fire and Ice Trappers made for Schrade by GEC in 2007. They are superior to anything made by GEC under their own name up to that point. They also had ringed bolsters.

As to the OP's title, all knives pictured so far can be had (even today) for under a 60-dollar bill. None of them are cheap as to cheap quality.

Ed, here is a Bulldog USA single blade #23 with it's Tidioute cousin. Matchstriker on this one in brown winterbottom bone.

I think they also did some #54 whittlers for Bulldog with the matchstrike pulls.

Yes, I know that but I was speaking to the knife shown in this thread.

Think I've seen some GEC25 /Bulldogs in Green Bone with striker pulls.

Jeff, that's some tidy looking Winterbottom on that knife, thanks for showing it.

I'm pulling this one back up to ask about the thickness of these Bulldog EZ opens. I have not seen any pictures of these single blade that show the thickness of the bone/spring, or any listed measurements. Thanks.

I got a Tidioute 73L just like the one on the right second-hand, courtesy of a seller here on the forums. It cost me just $55 shipped. I am blown away by the quality, and the size for me is just perfect. It's not my EDC, but is now my official go-to outdoors knife. Just this past weekend I used it mushroom hunting.

They made some green EO ones with matchstriker pulls. Mine has splotchy color on the mark side, but I like it nonetheless. I like the sheepsfoot models too, but they look naked without shields IMO. I'm sure the shields are omitted to hit a certain price point.
