Hello Tim: For my old Square Wheel I bought a variable 1.5 HP Baldor for a great price! $450 from Tru Grit. It was a sale though:-(
I mounted it with the base flipped around and upside down... It works fine and saves a bit of $$... I really like the Leeson motors too, I just today mounted a Leeson vari-speed on my horizontal JL grinder... The best price I have seen on a whole Leeson DC/Control/H-Sink 1.5 HP system is from K&G at about $650(ALL WIRED UP).. I plan on getting one soon for my JL vertical grinder, unless Tru Grit runs another sale on the Baldor!!

I called the company recomended by Nathan House. I talked to Jeff Short and he recomended a 2 HP for $118. and a controler for $218. Total of $336. This is the best price that I've seen for variable speed.

The one problem that I had with his recomendation was that it was an AC 220V motor. The DC motor was about $500. Everyone that I have asked previously has said that a DC motor was required.

Anyone have recomendations about using the AC motor?

Thanks, Lynn
