I wouldn't mind getting a 4000 lumen olight, but they are $450. Any ideas for a less expensive route?

HID? LED? It's going to take multiple leading edge leds to hit that mark. In the case of High Intensity Discharge bulbs, I think it's about 75 lumens per Watt. Without a well made battery pack the kind of amperage needed to power those cannons could make things dangerous.

Modded maglite, easy enough to do yourself but no matter what route you go expect to spend over $200

It will take more effort, but you can build a crazy bright Maglite for $450. Hell, anywhere over $200 can get you a crazy bright Maglite provided you are able to get all the parts.

Here's a brief rundown of the brightest mods so far:

For reference, the brightest on that list is putting out around 16,000 lumens at the lamp.

I thought the SST-90 Olight could only reach about 2200 lumens, but I could be wrong. Your best bet might just be to pick up a couple spot lights, but that wouldn't be very cool, and certainly quite bulky.

I have one of Mac's "Torch" lights - supposed to be around 4000 lumens out the front...it's hella bright and yes, will light paper on fire easily (see my youtube vids).

If you want 4000 lumens via LED or incandescent, the routes are different.

The biggest problem is batteries and intermediate parts that can handle the high current. That said, CPF is your place as many have been doing the hard work of finding what works and what doesn't.

If you want to buy a Torch that's already built, I think WickedLasers is selling them for $300.

You can get an HID that puts out 4000+ lumens for a little over $100. Check your local automotive stores, Sams, Costco, etc. One of those should have at least one to buy. Those lights are pretty big though, as is the SR90. It might be handheld, but I wouldn't want to hold it for very long without the strap. Also, the SR90 is 2200 lumens, not 4000 lumens.
