Check my detent ball!

My new Zaan was disassembled and the detent ball area looks like this:

I really don't think this looks right. Is that a big burr? The ceramic ball does not spin freely....should it? Thanks all.

No, it’s proper. The ball is “staked” into the lock bar. It shouldn’t rotate free. They’re all like that. Staking the ball is done by punching the area and causing the titanium to misform or “smoosh” a bit.

Normal and nicely staked, that's a good amount of displaced material (i.e. that ball isn't going to fall out on you); use in good health!
