Well I'm glad Moose mentioned that Ethan approves of people using his knives as a blank slate or kit knife. I hope he approves of this modification. It feels great.

I used something called a Checkering File.

Jimp-a-licious - I'm not sure this would help me a lot, as I tend to choke up on the BK2 - but it looks sweet.

Looks excellent, good work, what did you use to do the thumb grooves?
 
Your 2 looks good. I've been thinking about turning a 2 into a clip-point, just don't know how possible it is with only a file or grinder.

Took about 10 minutes and yes, I eyeballed it. A Checkering file is a special file that has rows of teeth especially made to cut checkering like you would see on the grips of a 45acp or rifle stock. It cuts 10 rows at a time. I overlaped so I could make it a larger area.

You have to go slowly though, because of the amount of surface area you are cutting, the file has a tendency to want to jump out of the groves.

As I write this, I am about to do the same thing to my Randall Made Model 8-4. Hope it comes out as nicely as this one did.

As promised, here is a shot of my Randall Model 8 with it’s new thumb groove. I love this knife and the only thing it was lacking was the grooves. So, I put it’s groove on myself and did not have to send it away and lose sleep over whether or not it gets back to Randall, they do a good job and it gets back to me.

Also, I included a couple shots of the file that can do a great job if you are careful, or really screw up things if you go to fast.
 
That's great! It's one of the things that I felt my BK2 needs. Really nice, all 20 grooves on the BK2.:thumbup:
How many lpi ?

Can I use your file. J/k I will order one that's awesome. Nice to have a finished product to look at all for mods.
 
Seems like that file would really wanna walk on you, especially when starting out.
