My G.F. and I are going to a pumpkin-carving party (more like a margarita party with a little pumpkin carving thrown in). I made a cake to bring. Like it? (Gina and Kirk are the hosts.)

By the way, I'm bringing my limited Urban Camo Chris Reeve Aviator, Manix, full-serrated stainless Endura, & Fallkniven U2.

We need photos of the carving please and an analysis of how well each blade works.

Make sure that you do all the slippery knife work while still sober and warn people to take care. Some of them might not be used to sharp knives.

Great job!

I used to decorate the cake for my daughter's birthday when she was little. Lots of fun. And you get to eat your mistakes.

Great job!!! I like the way you used the eye-balls around the edges for effect :barf:  :D It's nice to see people still like to do things for halloween....Seems like there's always someone out there trying to be a stick in the mud and trying to tell everyone else to change old traditions to whatever they believe..

Ditto on the knife review. I used my Cuda Maxx 5.5 last year, and the blade is nearly too thick, and wide. Narrow and thin work best. I might try my A.G. Russell Woodswalker this year. Cool cake, BTW! My wife has me do all my kids' cakes. Just did a Snake cake last week.

The Aviator didn't work too well. The serrations on the spine quickly fill up with pumpkin guts and become useless. After I gave up on the serrations, it quickly took the top off the pumpkin, but didn't do too well with the detail work of the facial features. Even that knife is too thick for the job.

I ended up using the Fallkniven U2 for most everything. It performed wonderfully and still shaves. The action is pretty sticky on the U2 now, even after a good bath. I'll have to bathe it again in some more hot water. The instructions say it's "self-lubricating" and you're never supposed to oil it and I wanted to see how long I could go without oiling and/or sharpening the U2. The pivot is definately sensitive to crud.
