Check out the 5 year Commander Edition

Are they admitting that the new Commanders are inferior? Many people said the changes (thinner liner, thinner g-10 handle) on the new models were for the better. Now they are charging $319.99 for the old model.

LOL :D There's one in every crowd.

People have been asking EKI for YEARS to bring back the 98 Commander formula.

They bring out a L-I-M-I-T-E-D E-D-I-T-I-O-N piece (one time good deal), beyond what the customers have asked for . . . and some knucklehead terms all other Commanders "Inferior".

*Shaking head* There's no pleasing some people. :D

If I didn't already have one of the original satin finished '98s I'd be all over this.

Folks, this knife retired 3 others that I carried daily and hasn't left my pocket since. Again, I'd hop on it given the chance.

Kevin

For any of you who were on the fence in deciding whether or not to purchase the knife it's too late. They sold their entire supply of 25 knives within several hours.

Fortunately, it's reported that they have started a want list and may make more available when and if they have a chance.

This 2002 Commander with 98 Specs is a great knife but it is over priced ($319.99)in my opinion.

I can pay a little more for a Strider AR/GB and get thicker liners and thicker G10 handle.

I think the 1999-2002 Commanders should have the same thicker liners and thicker G10 handle of the 98 Commander. Emerson should never have changed to thinner liners and thinner G10 handles.

98 Commaders topped the $400 mark in secondary market pricing earlier this year. If you see any 98s going for less then the original $225 retail, let me know. :D

Retail on a regular Commander is $219. For the extra $100 your getting thicker liners, thicker scales, Satin finished blade and a knife that is limited to basically about 5% of the original 98 Commander run (that's if they do a second run. Right now your looking at about 2.5% of the original 98 run)

Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't charge more.

Did I mention the entire run was flat sold out before lunchtime? :D

OK *shrug*

I agree. What's your point.

I personally regard the Commander, in all forms, to be the best knife for my needs. I have several 98s, I also own 99s, 2000s, 2001s and to date, one 2002 (I had another but a guy bought it right out of my pocket at SHOT show this year).

The 1999 - 2002 regular Commanders are still far from "inferior".

Edit Added Comment:

I prefer the feel of the thicker Commanders. I'd like to see EKI offer optional scales that brought the width out to the size of the original Commanders.

Retail on a regular Commander is $219 but the majority of online stores are selling it for much less. www.onestopknifeshop.com is selling it for $169.99 and I can name a dozen other online retailers that sell it for even lower but I think we should support www.onestopknifeshop.com when we buy. So you are paying $150 or more for thicker liners, thicker scales, Satin finished blade. Not a great deal in my opinion. Of course there are those who think it is worth it and they are entitled to their opinion.

I think we will agree that the 1998 Commanders and 2002 Commanders with 98 Specs are spectacular!

You are comparing retail pricing to street prices which is wrong. It is definitely worth the extra $100 for the thicker liners and satin finish.

If you hate Emersons so much, what are you doing in this forum?

I never stated that I hate emersons. Don't put words in my mouth. Go re-read my post. Get a clue!

This is what I stated:

"I think we will agree that the 1998 Commanders and 2002 Commanders with 98 Specs are spectacular!"

Gentlemen, Gentlemen, Gentlemen . . . please

Non-box, I think what E_WOK is trying to say that we're comparing "retail" to "retail" (apples to apples).

Personally, I don't think your going to see these limited pieces drop a lot in value or selling price, Internet or no Internet.

Does anyone know for sure if the second 25 will be identical to the first 25?

Thanks, Dan

Damn, missed that "dream" run. I held off on the SC due to the "handle [scale/liner] thickness" issue (well, it is an issue for me).

I recently purchased a Strider AR and it's plenty thick for me. I also have a Strider SnG on order. If it weren't for these two commitments, I would be all over the limited edition '98 specs Commander--they're well worth the extra $150 to me. Hmm, maybe, just maybe, I could ....:D

Those are beautiful! If I hadn't just traded for a Commander I would be all over that one.
Matt

That is sweet looking. I really like my 2000 Commander, and I had an extra for sale. I think I may just keep the both of them since they are both paid for. Now maybe I can try to find a 98 or put one of these new ones on my wantlist. Thanks for the pics, and info guys.
