Here is some info for those of you coming to my hammer in and show or that might like to.

Here's a list of makers that will likely be at the hammer in, please excuse me if I leave some out. These are mostly guys you will know.

Tim Hancock MS, Larry Fuegen MS, Harvey Dean MS, Rick Dunkerley MS, Josh Smith MS, Tom Ferry MS, Bruce Bump MS, Jon Christensen MS, Ed Caffery MS, Shane Taylor MS, Wade Colter MS, James Rodebaugh MS, Jason Tiensvold MS, Kirk Rexroat MS, Gary House JS, Nick Wheeler JS, John Davis JS, Bill Burke JS, Matt Diskin JS, Henry Torres JS, Erik Fritz, Ed Schempp, and Rick Eaton.

How's that line up?!! Obviously their not all demostrating. Tim, Larry, and Harvey are the demostrators.

Hotel: I got a great group rate at the brand new Hilton Garden in for 99 plus tax. Their rates are normally $160. Call 406-532-5300 and ask for the American Bladesmith Society.

Rental Car: I got a VIP rate set up at 51.85 per day unlimited miles. Call 406-543-3131 and ask for Karis. Tell her what you're coming for and she will set it up.

You will fly into Missoula International Airport (MSO). You can connect to Missoula from Minneapolis(Northwest), Salt Lake City(Delta), Denver(United, Frontier), and Seattle(Alaska Air).

If you are a collector I can also pick you up at the airport. We can work out car pooling from the hotel to the shop with another maker or collector. For more information go to my website and click on the hammer in or show page. Thanks.

Wonderful news Josh. I am attempting to change my plans: Bring my wife and son, and then drive a rental from Montana to Vancouver to visit relatives. Taking the 'scenic route'....

THIS is going to be fun. :D

That's great. I have a scenic route to Vancouver, if you have the time, that is unbelievable. Give me a call if you want when you have a map in front of you. There's a couple ways there and they are amazing. If you're in a hurry to just get there the interstate is fast and O.K. but the back way is amazing all the way. You won't even have to take a stage coach!!!

Josh....this line up (almost:D) made me rethink my visit to Atlanta:thumbup:

What a lineup. This event is definiteluy worth taking in.

I will be driving there and throwing up a tent. Hopefully the weather will be good. The last I did that it rained steady for the whole weekend.

I have to second what Josh said... as one of the first collector types to attend the hammer-in last year, I can tell tell you that it is well worth the trip. There is plenty of time to talk with some amazing makers who take the time to talk to you in a relaxed setting. Nor, in my case, did any one of them treat me like a complete idiot newbie enthralled by people making knives. From what I understand, this little gathering among the mountains has one of the largest concentrations of the master smith species than any other gathering; and, they are fairly approachable.
And, to see what these guys go through to make the knives we all love so well, is ASTOUNDING.
If you are real careful, pay close attention, and are fairly unobtrusive... you might even get to see some of Josh's incredible work that he likes to hide away. Last year, I got to see an incredible sword blade in the making, the likes of which many master smiths had never seen. A few months later, we all got the chance to see pictures of the final piece, which belongs in a museum. I suggested to Josh that he encourage some other folks to bring more pieces that they can discuss, informally, and talk about what they had to do and learn about to make the piece. They could at least bring pictures. Don't let me down, Josh!!

Thanks for the compliments about the hammer in. This year you can be assured there will be more knives at the hammer in. I have asked all the makers to bring some work this year because instead of one or two collectors there will be more like 15 or 20.

At the banquet dinner I am adding a Master Smith round table. I will ask the master smith's in attendance to sit at a table and field any questions the crowd may have. I may even ask the Master smiths to bring some of their knives so the crowd can ask some questions.

I appreciate the comments and I'm always open to suggestion. Should I turn the sprinklers off in my yard this year?:D:D

Josh,

I think this will be a superb event. I hope my schedule will permit me to attend.

P

Yes, Josh...turn off the sprinklers. The "Mini-Smith" and I have already put it on our schedule. It is my fond hope that I can get Jimmy to spring for a hotel this year.

This is really cool, man I wish I could go. Where can i find out about hammer ins in my area? Thanks.

Trevor

I just wanted to update people about the Hammer In weekend coming up in the end of June.

We are going to have four guys do the performance part of their Journeyman Smith test. These four guys are going to have to chop a rope, chop two 2x4's in half, and bend their blades 90 degrees. We're going to have a blast watching these guys sweat.

I'm off to buy some oak 2x4's with nails in them!!:)

Josh,
I don't think there is any mystery as to WHY the names on the list are there...from everything I can tell about you short of meeting you...YOU JUST PLAIN GET IT!

It is a pleasure perusing your website, reading about you, and seeing the great knives you make.

I just hope the hammer-in continues so I may have the opportunity to participate in one.

I hope a LOT of pictures are posted.

Josh email sent. I would like to try to come to the hammer in and have some questions.

Thanks,

Trevor

Peter,

Thank you very much for your compliments. You are too kind. I too hope you can make one of my hammer in's one day.

Erik, I thought since you were going to show the collectors present how to fail a Journeyman test I better bring in some guys to show the collectors how to pass one. :D :D

Actually I really look forward to seeing four guys pass their Journeyman test including you Erik. It will add a great anticipation and excitement to the weekend atmosphere.

I'm still searching for that "special" board for you guys to chop through.

Josh
