Apparently we dont have Great Tits in America. But these Great Tits are killing bats!
The Great Tit, Parus Major before you get excited, boys.
So these Tits are driven Batty
Its a tiny bird too, not some large raptor esque bird.
During the winter months, Great Tits usually hunt seeds, but when the forest floor is covered with snow and food is scarce, they put the omni in the omnivore. It appears to be a cultural learning phenomenon, much like the behavior of taking off milk caps and sipping milk that the birds have done in the past.
The neat part is that the sonic frequencies of the bats, not completely audible by humans, are still audible to the tits. They confirmed that in dark caves. They feel around the cave for 15 minutes at a time, listening for these bats to make a sound when they are disturbed.
