I could not see anything particularly special about either knife, but apparently the ebay buyers thought otherwise:

Item number: 270814067881
Item number: 140608860653

I really like the MIL-K 818, but... DAYUM!

Am I missing something?

It would be hard for me to come up with a good reason for this. I know I am looking for one from the year I went in the Air Force and one from the year I retired but I will not pay very much for one of these knives. I have two that I would love to sell for a silly price.

Feedback in both cases indicate that the buyers completed their end of the bargain by actually paying for the item once the bidding war ended. I've been at the selling end of a few auctions that closed at a rather lofty level, only to have the highest bidder disappear.

I have no reasonable explanation for those prices. Maybe for a 1949 Camillus MIL-K but I can see nothing that special about the knives in the auctions.
