check these hawks

Nice looking. The eye is kinda odd IMO, but nice. Just what I need... another tomahawk.

I prefer my cutting edges to be tempered myself. It's a beautiful piece for sure and damascus as well. The handle hole (not too sure the terminology) is kinda longish and narrow to me or is this normal?

Normally people who buy these "heads" attach handles themselves? I'm new here and also foreign (Malaysia) so I'm not sure about normal practices.

How do you make sure the head does not fly off? Do you slide the hawk head along the handle from the "tail" end to the "top" (where the top end is larger) but that means the handle is no bigger than "handle hole" and I think it is kind of small.

Anyone ever fixed synthetic handles to these tomahawk heads or is this idea preposterous?

I thought this guys heads had a tappered hole thru the head so you would wedge the handle in the head.
Synthetic would work if you could find one that you could fit. If I picked one of these up I think I would fit a exotic handle just for show..

no the holes are not tappered they mount like a hammer dose with a wedge .for camp use ive never had a prob but for throwing the spot where the head and handle join are a little weak.he dose make hawks with standerd mounting holes like cs hawks.

I did suspect it will be weak laterally (problem when striking off centre or throwing incorrectly) and the wood will likely break at the steel to wood interface (by partly shearing). Personally a steel skirting plate at the steel wood interface will serve to spread the concentric shearing load over a larger surface and will in theory minimise breakages.

That looks much sturdier. also means your handle can be beefy instead of skinny like for the 1st one. But I do so love admiring damascus in all shapes and types...

I wish I can collect axe heads too. We have good tropical hardwood here in Malaysia and i would enjoy trying out different wood or carving my own handles... If you can please ask the maker (Chris) about the hardness of the cutting edge and spike. I believe it does not have to be too hard as it is an axe not a knife and experiances more impact so toughness is the more critical issue but you wouldn't like tofu softness too right?

he said there are around 45rc .the more i look at the new head the more i want it lol i better watch it or my wife will think im a zombie and use it on me lol

Bit soft... That confirms it for me, no wood choppin or breaching, just head crushing!

I got married recently and is my 2nd aniversary soon and within 2 years I converted my wifey from pacifist tree hugger (living in peaceful la-la land) into the paranoid weapon toting love of my life!

Now we collect "toys" like hawks and blades together...

im woundering if the hawk head with the slotted hole will hold up if i get a titanium handle i know the handle wont break lol .they just look so much better then my beat up cs hawks .as for hardness i know the one i have is harded then my cs ones how much im not sure
