I recently sent my 806D2 in to Benchmade to have the handle replaced (don't ask :) ).
Well, look at what I got back. Pretty sweet if you ask me, unique at the very least.

Yes, Benchmade did that, looks like they ran out of scales and used some from the 805HSSR.

Funny, cuz I was planning on sending it to Chax for some customizing, but now I think I'll leave it alone.

All I see is a flat, featureless black, no contrast, no details.

Turn your brightness way up.  I can at least see the front of what looks like a wood inlay too. :D

Yes, the difference is the wood inlays, and they are on both sides. Here is a brighter pic,

Did you have to pay for that? Maybe I should break the handles on mine and see what I get back. Easier said than done with G10, though. Maybe if I "accidentally" freeze it and then "accidentally" hit the scales with a ball-peen hammer? Freeze it with liquid nitrogen? And then "oops" clamp it in a vise really hard?

I was quoted a price of $35.00 to replace one scale. It definitely wasn't a warranty covered repair, as the scale had been dremelled. I bought it already damaged with the intention of getting it fixed. I sent my credit card info with the knife, but haven't been charged. Maybe since they used 805HSSR scales on an 806D2 they didn't charge me? Maybe they will charge eventually? But since I already have the knife back I kinda doubt it, though I wouldn't really mind if they did. They didn't even charge for the return shipping. I hope they don't read this then decide to bill me  :D . At least they changed both scales to match, and not just the damaged one:D . With all the business going on with Benchmade these days concerning how they deal with distributors and dealers or whatever, at least their customer service is still top-notch.

I like the concrete in the first picture better. lol

But seriously, I like the new inserts. It was definately a good idea to buy that used knife! Hopefully, Benchmade will be generous enough to let that slip by the waranty :D

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and the first pic was on the little shelf on the side of my Weber grill :D .

They have definitely got some great people in Customer Service! :D

(The scales look good in the brighter picture.)
