So a customer asks me to do a BK14 Kydex sheath. No problem. He doesn't even have to send me his knife because I'll just use one from my inventory of new stuff for a model.
I grab a box that says "14" and open it, take the blade out of the sleeve and start to walk away. I look down and...WTF? This blade shape does not look familiar!
So I go back to my shelves and retreive another brand new blade from another box and...sure enough, it's different than the first -- I'm not going crazy.
The first one was actually blunt where the belly rises to meet the tip. Think of it as the anti-tanto.
For those who know the factory production, are these knives hand ground one at a time? If so, my first one was done by "the new guy"!
I took some photos, but they don't really do it justice. In real life the difference is obvious. Here's what I got:
Old style grind on the bottom, "new" style grind on top.
Like I said, it's more obvious in real life. The "old" style is really stabby, compared to the "new" grind, which is quite blunt.
Another view:
Flipped. Old style on top. You can see the wider belly on the "new" one below.
I'm just glad I didn't form the Kydex to the "new" style and then send it out to a customer, who's knife probably wouldn't seat all the way.
Anbody else run into this?
