Who checks bags just so they can have their knives when traveling by air?

I made a trip recently and left all my blades at home. It sucked not having them with me, but luckily I got by without them. I travel light, so no need for me ever to check bags.

Due to the lengths of trips and amount of gear, I always check baggage. There's usually a knife of some sort in there, but nothing I'd miss or couldn't easily replace.

If you know where you're staying you should mail/ship anything you don't want stolen.

When I went to Vegas last year, I went without and bought something new there. I mailed it home.

I had the opportunity to go on a 4 nighter just recently but ended up not going. The last trip I took was int'l so I was able to pack a SAK in my checked. If it comes up again I'll just pick something up wherever I am and then either give it away or mail it home if it's worth it. I don't like being w/o.

I have done this a few times

depends on how long the trip is but for the most part that is mainly the reason I check my luggage so that I can bring a knife and a multitool. I feel naked without something while traveling

Another thought....if you are going somewhere where you know someone then you can mail the knife ahead of time to them so it will be there when you arrive.

I rarely check a knife in a suitcase, mainly due to the risk of having it stolen. (Yes, it happens regularly.) I do routinely mail a knife to my destination, and then mail it back home before I leave. You can mail things to yourself even at a hotel as long as you'll be staying there.

Another worthless federal program. One time they took an empty brass handgun cartridge case, no primer, that I had on a keychain.

Yeah, I've heard that the FBI regularly sends guns and crap through to test the TSA and about 70% makes it through.

I do if someone else is paying my travel, which is usually the case. Most of my trips are 2-3 days so I can make do with just a carry on, but if someone else is footing the bill I'll drop a knife in my bag and check it. It's also nice not to have to drag the bag through a big airport when changing planes.
