Checkered pocket clip?

Has anyone ever had the pocket clip on any of their knives either serrated or checkered to enhance the grip on drawing their knife from the pocket?

I've considered using "skateboard" tape, but was hoping for something more permanent. Can a gunsmithing shop do something like this, how about Kevin Robinson or David Brunner? I don't want to just take a Dremel and start cutting. I think it would be a great idea, especially when working with wet or cold hands.

Any ideas?

Hmmmmmmm?

Not a bad idea on the checkering or serrations but I think that the checkering would be out of the question. I don't think it is thick enough to be able to checker it.

I'm not sure about serrations but they would have to be pretty light too because you don't have a lot to take off.

Maybe a skeletonized clip might be the way to go. It won't grab as much as a checkered front strap on a gun but it would have indentations that the fingers could seat into to help get more of a grip purchase to draw the knife.

I've been using the skateboard tape on My knife clips and front straps of My 1911's for years. It lasts approx. 1 year before the glue gets dried out and needs replaced. For rough duty use like IPSC or IDPA pistol shooting I'm sure it would need replaced more frequently.tom.

I have a buddy that grit tapes everything but Condoms, including his knife clips.

Here's a tip from him. If your going to "grit" something, either get the good, aluminum backed skid tape from a pool supplier or get the spray on grit from Brownells. (Stock number "083-044-001")

Stay away from the "Skate board" tape. It's little more then sandpaper and the grit comes off in no time.

[BAD VISUAL] Ouch !!! :p

Michael: I think I agree with Ross ( and not because he's Filipino). I find that I get better purchase of my skeletonized clips. I've tried the skateboard tape idea and I found it tended to peel frequently leaving a sticky mess.

If you have an extra clip lying around and a good drill press, try putting some holes in it, a la ROSANGHAL. Let us know how it turns out.

The light-duty Brownells spray on type of grit sure beats even the extra ribbed variety! Or so she say's!

I haven't had a problem with my fingers slipping. When I "wave" the commander, my index finger wraps around the flared end of the clip (the bottom), like it was on a trigger. This gives it excellent purchase on the clip, with the added security of the thumb pressing on one of the scales as I draw.

John, thanks for the idea of the spray on grit. I'll have to look it up if I don't try the Dremel idea first.

Chris, I have never really had a problem either. This past weekend though my hands were all cold and oily and I realized that maybe with serrations or checkering you would not need to apply as much tension between the fingers and thumb.
