Anyone given any thought to checkering steel knife handles?

We've go a thread going on the Spyderco forum about it and I thought I'd bring the idea out in the open.

The stainless SC handles can be slippery on the draw. I was thinking it would be cool to take a checkering file to the top inch of it to make it easier to draw.

Maybe I'll try to obtain a cheap well-used one to experiment on and buy a checkering file at the next gun show. Anyone got a beat-up Spyderco with stainless handles they'd like to sell really cheap or donate for the experiment?

Anyway, just a thought I'm throwing around.

Input would be appreciated.

Checkering steel is considered the most difficult task for a gunsmith to learn and master...
Unless you've already mastered the skill, you stand a very good chance of ruining your knife.

My suggestion is to find some other way, or get a professional to do it.

"SC Rebel1957" does checking on SS handles. He has a few pics on his website.

Humph. Well, I guess I was wrong in thinking it would be easy. That's OK. I'll just forget it and get over it.;)
