Checkering files work fine on MOP.Go slow,straight, and gentle - no wiggle or twisting. Brush/wipe out dust often. There won't be much dust created,but remember that MOP is not lung friendly.A damp cloth should capture any stray dust.
There are carbide checkering tools available, I use them and they are very sharp. Take a look at Brownells -- they have every thing related to gun stock work.
