Checkering tools

May checkering tools, the type used for walnut gunstocks, be used for checkering....say ...pearl scales? Or must they be checkered with files?

Checkering files work fine on MOP.Go slow,straight, and gentle - no wiggle or twisting. Brush/wipe out dust often. There won't be much dust created,but remember that MOP is not lung friendly.A damp cloth should capture any stray dust.

There are carbide checkering tools available, I use them and they are very sharp. Take a look at Brownells -- they have every thing related to gun stock work.
