It was on my watch list also. I did not look at it until it was done, wow what a steal that one was. But, I can't buy anything for awhile any ways. Dave do you have that one, if so post some good photo's!

Dang, I don't know how that one slipped by me. This is the first time I've seen the listing.:grumpy:

yes i have that one .. will see of good pictures..
i dont bid on ones i have unless there is some thing i really need in it

Someone got a good deal. I missed that listing. All I seem to be doing recently is raising the prices for other people. I'm still new to this and still learning the best bidding strategies. I'm also still learning how to find the good 'uns.

The Bay, as Dave says, is a fascinating place. It has some shark-infested waters.....which is why we always pay with a credit card. If they screw you, you can do a chargeback even months later. Don't be afraid to confront a seller who has misrepresented an item.....they are often quite prepared, even eager, to offer a partial refund to make things right.

About bidding: If you bid early you will usually contribute to raising the price because others will see the bid and far too often they have to pick away at it until they are high bidder.......then somebody else does the same for them. That's what drives the final price up.

If you bid in the last five seconds there is no time for that dynamic to occur, thus the final price will likely be far more reasonable. This is by no means assured, as snipers sometimes put in crazy bids, but if you place a smart bid, you won't get hurt.

I don't even bid if a whole bunch of people have been playing the game to be high bidder, because most auctions will be irreparably ruined by that time.

In some cases, very rarely, I will bid in such an auction if I really want a great knife, but it's usually become obvious that the final price will go too high and at some point I have to make a final careful evaluation and say no.

As far as finding the good ones goes.....that's just a matter of putting in the time and searching the many possibilities comprehensively. Look for knives that have not been described well so that searches will fail to turn them up.

Look for good knives that have not been presented accurately or intelligently to raise their profile to the collectors that would be interested in that particular and unique item.

A knife simply described as a "Buck" knife, with no model number or details which turns out, when closely examined, to be an unusual variation of a 112, is usually going to end up being a bargain.

One important thing is that if you decide to take a chance on a poorly-photographed knife from a seller that makes you a little suspicious.......remember that you are making a gamble and you're going against the odds. You might win the long shot.....usually you won't. After a while you start to get a feel for such things.

Very good advice, and plan. Some times I set a snipe bid at my high price and doesn't cost me I get outbid. I figure if I did my careful thinking and research I should be OK. Again to emphasize what edge said about lousy pictures, you don't know if they are just lousy photographers or hiding something. If interested ask lots of questions. The worst thing you can do is run across an item at the last minute and hurry your bid without research. A lot of times there is a reason it's low at the last minute. Good morning everyone.

I do just what BG said, note there were several sharks watching the auction in the OP and it was missed by all of them;). So there is some risk with the last second sniper style, but, you don't get caught in the emotional bid war and don't pay more than you want to. Also follow the advice on payment, When I was new to ebay I got burned very bad...but, that's a whole story unto itself.

Now with that said, how about a little thread jack (if 110 Dave doesn't mind, that new handle has a much better roll off the tongue for Dave). How about "the one that got away" story. Back in October of last year I missed out on a 905 bowie with the same gold etch that is on Armand's 103. I saw this knife getting re listed off & on for almost a year. The last time it was relisted before it sold the price went down to what I would pay for it. The only problem was I would be gone deer hunting when the auction ended. I contacted the seller and let them know I was going to bid on their wonderful knife and would be gone for over a week after the auction was over and would send payment on my return if I won. When I got back from the mountains and checked the 905 auction, I was out bid by $5 with a last second snipper, I checked a few weeks later and found that it was taken buy on of the Ebay dealers:(, so it will be resold some time in the future for 2x what they paid for it. Man that was one sweet stag handled 905 with the mountain man gold etched blade...and it got away;).

yup the 110 dave is smother like it is mellowed and not right out of a jar
yep us bidders need to watch closely..
it is all a gamble
some sites have a 15 sec rule
any bids in the last 15 sec reset time left to 15 sec
has to go over 15 sec to win a bid..
but there sellers will snipe in from another account and shrill the bid..
i look at evil e as a kind of sealed bid format..
makes it easier to ride the excitement out
true i have a good bit of buyers regret when it is not what i think it should be but ...
i have tried to win a listing for some for years
but always bid to low
i upped my bids and still lost out a 115$ or more so gave up..
yet times i pick up one for half .
many times us here talking on them and at other forums like abpk
makes the bids go up a LOT over what they should ..
rule is if you want to win a reasonable bid will not win half the time ..

Cant believe no one on the forum won that knife esp at that price. I scoured the listings, so I thought, and never saw that one. I had a few bids in on some others and came up empty. Lost a paperstone 345 by fitty cent.

Dave, did you have that one??? I have to say that was by far the best E;bay bargain on a Buck I have seen...

ugh no... i did not have that one
again i am on ebay as much as i am here
i look at every thing that has buck + knife + 110
some times i have a lot of buck as in dollar i wade through
but some times it pay off ..

My search has '110' in it and that listing never hinted at the model number so it got by me too. I never have that kinda luck.
i look at up to 2000 listings in a day sat and sunday night are very bussy
and i track selling prices closely
i can tell you at what price it should sell and what price it "might" sell at
but there is no telling at all what on any one day it will bring..
what bothers me is those selling a hard to find knife and think it will bring a LOT
i have seen many many knifes be relisted each time lower
untell they get to a point were it did noy sell
at an offer i had made to the made to the seller!!!
yes many times i like offered say 30 and they list starting at 20
i bid only 21 and have won at much less then i offered to start
but times i offer say 80 and it ends up selling at 100
oh well every day is different..

So Dave,
You are saying that you contact the sellers and make them offers on their auction items? Do the sellers often take you up on your offers?
