So, I have seen the Case Cheetah many times but it had never really appealed to me that much. For whatever reason, I recently started looking closer and found a new appreciation for it, and decided to give it a go. Honestly, I am very surprised by how much I like this knife! I love my GEC and Queen knives, but the country boy in me still loves Case and always will.

Has anyone here ever purposely removed the swing guard to create a more straight bodied gentlemen's lock back? I have thought about giving it a go if I acquire another one.

Visually I would understand the urge to take off the swing guard, but I just think that the swing guard is so cool. I really get a kick out of seeing the guard articulate.

Just FYI, if you don't want to alter your Case Cheetah, Rough Rider makes a swing guard lock back that very similar and cost much less. Try a RR to see if you really want to mod your Cheetah. Just a thought.

There's always the copperlock, it's a bit different shape but overall pretty much the same thing but without the guard.

Got the big and little copperlock. The thicker Cheetah grip is nice though, and provides better purchase for my meat claws.

The guards are easily removed and replaced at will. The rivet holding it is a simple two piece arrangement, two sides, one slides into the other, simply pressed together. Its not peened or crimped in anyway and comes apart very easily.

I have 3 total, 2 Case Cheetahs, and a pretty much identical pattern from Queen.(although the Queen is a better, smoother action, much nicer to operate). I've had the guards off and back onto all three several times.

I HATE guards on any knife, fixed blade or folder... Nothing more than a bunch of unnecissary metal to get snagged while your working.

But the Queen is the smoothest lock back I own, and one of the Cheetahs was my Dads'(he LOVED guards on knives, thats why I got him the Cheetah one year) so I can't part with them. When I carry them, I take the guard off. When I put them up in storage for a while, I put the guards back on so as to not lose them.

Anyway, with the blade open, grip the spine side of the guard and squeeze the tips together, then pull apart... Repeat 2 or 3 times and the rivet should pop into two pieces, or be loose enough to be pulled apart the rest of the way. After you take them off, press the rivet back together loosely trapping the guard pieces, and its all captive, just one piece to store.

I can post a couple pics later when I can get to the knives, to prove its that easy, and no harm is done. :)

I'd like to see if anyone knows a lot about Cheetah knives? I bought one that I thought would be unique/rare because it has no Case stamp on the knife and is missing the Cheetah also. Is this kinda like finding an error coin? Please let me know what I have here. Thx.
