Chef knife hidden tang thickness?

I'm having a hard time broaching out holes in my handle material for how thin the tangs have been on my kitchen knives (1/8 - 5/32"). The problem is if I make it any thicker it'll be thicker than the base of the blade, and I don't want the tang to be visible if you look at the handle staring down the point of the knife. Do I just need a thinner broach? The tools available to me at the moment are a drill press and hand tools, no milling machine or anything like that.

When I go crazy I can do this .......... :D it is 1.5mm opening for tang and don t ask how I do that ....

Thanks Natlek! This is all super helpful. Seems like I need to actually make my tangs a bit thinner so I can just use a sawblade. And yeah, metal bolsters are a good way to hide stuff. They just feel like cheating a bit lol.

You can find saw blade in different thickness.............then you can combine them to get thickness you want IF one is not good , that is what i do .I have no that broach ...but now I think that I will make several :)
