i know this has probably been discussed for at least 43335 times (LOL)--i tried todo a search but no success--so here i am--
Ok now--im a newbie--I found a small set of leaf springs--maybe off a golf cart or small trailer--the folks said I could have em--they were bent up a bit--pretty much new--even had remnants of a UPC sticker--so I dont know what kind of metal it is==i made a small knife out of it--and its pretty dang sharp as compared to a couple 1095 bar stock blades-
1-Any idea on what kinda steel if not 5160?
2-Would it make a decent chefs knife?
3-chef knife---6"or 8"??
Thankyou

1) Probably 5160, or something very similar.
2) Yes, it would make a decent chef's knife. Do a mirror polish for corrosion resistance.
3) I'm a fan of 8" chef's knives.
