The idea is fine, but it's a matter of theory vs. application: 1) The springs on the guides are much too weak; 2) If you rest the blade against the guide, the dimensions (thickness and depth) of the blade determine the sharpening angle more than does the angle of the rod; 3) the rods are too short.
