Has anyone ever seen anything that clamps to the spine of a chefs knife to widen the blade? Widen it just a bit so its easier for your off-hand to push down when cutting thick, difficult items like meat, blocks of cheese, etc?

My wife was watching a cooking segment on TV and noticed they had an attachment that clamped onto the top (spine) of a chef's knife. It didn't look very wide (maybe 1/2") but seemed to make it much easier to push the blade through and not have the spine of the blade crease into your off-hand.

I have been searching the internet at different knife retailers but can't find anything. I wonder if that cook just had
something built. Just two thin aluminum blocks that are drilled and tapped could be made into something like that.
Just clamp to the end of the blade and it should work.

Anyone seen anything already built?

Never heard of such a thing. Whenever I need to cut thick resistant items I use one of these:

A posting here in the last few days about using paper wheels for sharpening showed a "pizza knife" with an attachment like that.

Dexter Russel sells an attachment like that in their Pizza/Cheese knife section. IIFC

Interesting. Not so sure I'd use it very often. Looks sorta like something that would find it's way to the back/bottom of the junk drawer, never to reappear.

I have a $12 cleaver that I break out when I need to hack my way through stuff (mainly chicken wings).

For chopping tough stuff I use vintage Foster Bros or Briddel cleavers. Both are sharp enough to shave hair and will cut though most anything.

Not to be a smart allec but if need a device like this to cut you are doing something wrong. Interesting gimmick though.
