I got an email from Glenn of Wolfs Knives, the guy that dresses up as Santa every year, or at least has the big Santa hat and the flashing sign. He said that his table deposit for this year was refunded. He was disappointed, as he always does great at the Chesapeake show. The same thing happened to other makers/dealers, and I confirmed it with many sources on Facebook, guys that set up there. I don't know if Ted is sick, fed up or what, but the 2012 show was a lot of fun, but not the same as in years past. Missing a lot of people. It was about 60/40 positive negative from the dealers I spoke with. I do know that not as many dealers/makers came to the 2013 show, and that I got a couple emails and Facebook messages from others in regards to them canceling because of impending weather. A local dealer in Frederick said that it took him about three hours to get home. I didn't even go, and I believe the show was closed that morning for safety reasons. I heard it was dead.
I hope that the show comes back. It would be a good idea to change the date of the show, because of almost imminent inclement weather. I've missed a couple shows over the years, almost prompting me to get a hotel room, I live about an hour north of there. Maybe the owners of the show could sell it to someone else. Oh well, I'm looking forward to the Mason Dixon knife show in Hagerstown in April.
